Author's Notes: This is a little bitty POV set some time after S1's "Law & Order". I don't do Boone. I preferred Sandoval in S1. If this rubs any Boone fans the wrong way, I'm sorry. It just wouldn't get out of my head.

Sighing, William Boone put down the spray bottle next to the orchids and retreated back into the living room of his home. It had been one of those days, Da'an had been overly mysterious all day, that meant Doors was going to want to know why, which meant he was going to be running around at all the hours of the day and night trying to find out what was going on; the life of an undercover Liberation operative was so much fun sometimes.

He was also going to have to manoeuvre around Sandoval too, and that was not easy. Sandoval was good. Sandoval was better than good. Will closed his eyes briefly and went to the alcohol cupboard and pulled out a bottle of single malt. The CVI may prevent the alcohol adversely affecting the drinker but it didn't affect the taste; the mood he was in called for the taste of a good malt whisky.

Agent Ronald Sandoval - the thorn in his side. The problem he could not solve. He was the bad guy but he wasn't a bad guy and that was Will's problem. Sandoval's motivational imperative led his every action but that wasn't his fault. It wasn't even the Taelons' fault. It was his. He was the one that had insisted that Sandoval be re-implanted. Ron hadn't wanted it... the horror in his eyes as he'd realised what he'd done to DeeDee and Kate...

Angrily, Will gulped at the whisky. He'd played god that time. He was the one that couldn't let Sandoval die, not with a way to save his life ready and available. So, he'd saved the agent's life and damned his soul at the same time.

He liked Sandoval and that was the problem. They had widely differing views on most things in life but they worked well together. He trusted Sandoval's abilities. In the field, ironic as it sounded, when he was protecting Da'an, he trusted Sandoval to watch his back.

Ron had been there for him other times too. It was Sandoval's patience and understanding that got him through the early days after him implantation; Sandoval had helped learn it's capabilities and it's boundaries.

Sipping the whisky again, Will leaned back in his chair and his CVI called up another example for him. The testing grounds where he and Sandoval had been the bait as poor Rho'ha had done the initial testing of the regression of Taelon behaviour to promote aggression.

In his mind's eye, he could clearly see himself pulling Sandoval to his feet and the look of 'Oh, yeah. Sure. Whatever you want,' that they had shared when Rho'ha had asked them when they could play again. They'd just gone several rounds with an aggressive Taelon and had their butts kicked - the Taelon thought it had been fun and wanted to do it again! Being loyal implants they couldn't really say no - being human beings they'd both clearly wanted to say, "When Hell freezes over!"

They'd shared a moment of complete understanding and silent communication even though they were on opposite sides of the fight. Damn it, Sandoval might have been a friend in another life!

Will sighed and put down the empty glass. It was time to go meet Lili and do a little snooping. Regrets about Sandoval would have to wait for another time. Time to find out what the Taelons were up to this time.
